NOVEMBER PRESS REVIEW: WOMEN'S WEEKLY MALAYSIA

As I was enjoying reading this month’s Malaysian Women’s Weekly, I started taking a few notes on what I really liked and proceeded to jot them on my shopping list. That’s when the idea came to me to write reviews of my favorite magazines and share it.

This month's COVER GIRL is Maggie Q who happens to be Spicy, intelligent, gifted and Stylish to the tip of her nails.

Here are my favorite Styles for this month of November, and a few No Nos I couldn’t help but mention.

BUCKLE UP

As you must have guessed this page is all about belts and how to wear them, day time, show time, or party time. Leather belts, skin belts, lamé belts, belts, belts, belts, thin, wide or layered, belts are for all seasons and all occasions. My favourite buckled up girls? I have quite a few actually, ravishing Heather Morris in Ina Soltani,  stunningly chic Olivia Palermo in Bensoni, and oh so beautiful Drew Barrymore in Malandrino. I also love Jessica Lowndes in Matthew Williamson.

And here comes one big Yes! Yes! To Kim Kardashian (wearing Hannah Marshall), not from me though, but from appreciative members of the opposite sex, I’m sure, yet not the kind of message I would like to wear. Big saving for me!

GREEN WITH ENVY

Michelle Yeoh, you’ve done it again! This time wearing Alberta Ferreti. But what’s with the huge watch?
In a totally different style, Jayma Mays wears Tadashi Shoji with great allure. Yes, she does make me green with envy, unlike Hilary Duff in Herve Leger who looks like she deserves a break from the flash lights to make a bee line to the ladies’ room.
Left: Elisabeth Moss

If I had spent as much money on an Oscar de la Renta (I love him) dress to end up looking like Elisabeth Moss does on this page, I’d have to spend even more on a shrink and anti depressants; something that would not happen to Li Bingbing who looks absolutely gorgeous in D&G.
Li Bingbing

In the Style  spotlight...

Fan Bingbing – What ever she wears, the Fair Princess wears it with panache.

FOOTBALL FASHIONISTAS

On this page, the dudes’ goal is obviously to look HOT. And my vote for the hottest of them all is... I’m split. I’m split between the spotlessly chic David Beckham wearing an Armani suit and sun-kissed and casual Yoann Gourcuff. What the....Beckham!
Bottom right Yoann Gourcuff.

How Posh beat the fashion snobs

In consideration of how I feel about Posh, I’ll pass; after all I doubt if she needs the likes of me to succeed; and then she's got David ...

A beautiful article of great Style. My heart missed a beat for this pix of Jasmine Ngee at Sydney Aquarium.

ALL-TIME FAVORITES

Lace is definitely mine.

More lace on page 126.  I find it irresistible.

PARTY PERFECT

I simply can’t make up my mind between three looks, perhaps it has to do with the fact that each one expresses a different mood. So here’s what I would wear if I felt Romantic

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATHERINE DENEUVE!

Catherine Deneuve 2010

Famous French actress Catherine Deneuve was born on the 22nd of October 1943. I think it would be hard for anyone to ever catch Catherine out of Style; she seems simply faultless from                  Les Parapluies de Cherbourg all the way to Cannes 2010.
Catherine Deneuve in Les Parapluies de Cherbourg

As I was growing up, La Deneuve was already a screen legend who made the cover of the best magazines several times a year; the amazing thing is that after so long, she still does. Outside acting, Catherine also did modelling. Aside from being dressed by Yves St.Laurent on the movie sets and a la ville, she was the face of Chanel N0.5 in the 70s. Marianne, the symbol of the French Republic was her image from 1985 to 1989 and appeared quite recently in Louis Vuitton luggage advertisement.

So who needs to know if there are roles for actresses over                                       40?

MALAYSIAN PRESS REVIEW OCTOBER 2010 - MALAYSIAN WOMEN'S WEEKLY

As I was enjoying reading this month’s Malaysian Women’s Weekly, I started taking a few notes on what I really liked and proceeded to jot them on my shopping list. That’s when the idea came to me to write reviews of my favorite magazines and share it.

“At The Weekly we have real women in mind.”

Says Fashion & Beauty Editor, Melati Kesuma Kamaruddin.

That’s why I buy it!

This month of October 2010 is the 10th Anniversary Collector’s Issue of the magazine.

HAPPY 10th ANNIVERSARY MALAYSIAN WOMEN’S WEEKLY!

THINK PINK & LOVE LIFE, MWW celebrates like a grand lady with the kind of Style that comes from the heart. It starts with a small yet clever folded flyer organised like a calendar with a guide for Breast Self Examination.
Inside the call is to go out on October 12th and “SHOP IT PINK” at Mid Valley Megamall where listed stores will offer special deals and discounts and donate parts of the proceeds from the night to the BreastCancer Welfare Association. My question is, why can’t this be done at national level? Or at least in 1 shopping mall in every city? Why can’t we do this in Kuching? Sponsors, think about it.

Michele Yeoh
FAVORITE Styles:

Michelle Yeoh, hits me not with a kick but with the sheer power of elegance. She is one classy lady, who forgot to leave her training watch at home. Page 8

For once in as far as I can remember, I find Nicole Richie looks healthy, elegant and well, attractive. I think that giving up the blond hair was a sensible choice; brunettes are hot! Page 9
Nicole Ritchie

Page 11, I found the ladies in The VLBD (Very Little Black Dress) and without a second of hesitation, I gave my vote goes to Jessica Alba  She is wearing Lanvin.

Page 30 is about “Sleek elegance” with one of the most (if not the most) stylish, Malaysian Woman, Sheila Majid.  There is a full article on her (pages 50 to 52): “SHEILA UP CLOSE” She has been in the music industry for 25 years!

On the same page, I absolutely love Bottega Venetta’s purple dress.

“Runway Updates”

Page 141. While the  Alberta Ferretti's Grecian evening dress looks stunning...

If I could a) turn the clock back b) return unwanted goods to Michelin I’d for the little Gucci lacy LBD.

Page 145 Ever in love and totally comfortable with this almost “passe partout” Style by Oscar de la Renta!!!

Page 142 Oscar de la Renta, you’ve touched my heart again (and you keep doing it): the cloth, the print, the cut...

SORRY Styles :

Cheryl Cole looks like she jumped straight out of bed straight onto Page 9. I suppose that if I were a man, I'd probably find her ravishing to undress. I'm a bit concerned about those heels though; they may prove quite extreme in bed.
Cheryl Cole

I am not sure if it was worth for Zhou Xun to invest in a Dior dress to end up looking so haggard? Page 10 and I am not quite sure where Diane Kruger was going in golden feathered Lanvin outfit?  As for Victoria Beckham, sorry I've always felt that no matter what she wears she simply can’t help looking trashy.
The nicest pair of legs? On this page at least, as much as it pains me, I have to give my vote to Victoria Beckham!

GREAT WOMEN OF OUR TIME

A tough choice, however I vote for Gillian Hung perhaps because I am so into textiles myself, yet mostly because I understand how much determination and courage she must have needed to expatriate herself to far, far away “planet” New York where she had to survive with odd jobs, adapt to just about everything and everyone and compete to succeed; all this most probably made even tougher with periodical bouts of loneliness. Gillian, you are beautiful.

BEAUTY

I loved this month fast fix: SMOKE IN YOUR EYES.

Here are Just a few of the products  I want to buy:

Lancôme, le crayon khol noir RM68  Page 82

L’Oréal Paris Touche Magique Concealer RM35

La neige Mystic Veil Blusher RM70

Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge 390, RM75

Sisley Phyto-Poudre Compacte RM340. Look at the tortoise shell case!

ACCESSORIES

I always seem to pick Marc Jacob’s bags. Page 123 look for Genuine Ostrich Clutch –

StylesTIPS

Page 126, learn how to “dress your body better” by wearing the right dress with the right bra. Keep that page or take notes.

INSPIRATION:

“Inspire LOVE & LIFE” was lost on me. If you follow this blog, you know I found both the book (Eat, Pray and Love – sigh...) BORING. Why am not surprised to see that the writer (Elisabeth Gilbert) looks like its creation, that is: BORING!  And no, I don’t want to know what she does or doesn’t do with Felipe.
Elisabeth Gilbert

HUNK OF THE MONTH

Allan Who? Oh, Allan Wu! On page 225
Yeap! I agree he looks yummy. Is this an impromptu pause? I guess not. This is teasing Style!

WHAT’S IN IT FOR THE STARS? Page 262
Can any one question the stars for me on why, oh why for crying out loud, is beautiful, sparkling Libra Katy Perry with such a yucky odd ball dude?

Can’t wait for the Scorpio issue of

Bimba & Lola's Style

I found them on the ground floor of Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur, in an attractive boutique that exudes a very chic comfort; and so I bought myself one of their lovely bags:  Bimba & Lola

A Day in Kuala Lumpur (KL)

Living in East Malaysia has its perks; for instance there are no foreign embassies here, so that when you happen to be an expat like me, you have no choice but to go to KL when you need to renew your passport. This is how, a few days ago, I paid a visit to l’Ambassade de France on Jalan Ampang.  So where’s the perk in that, you may wonder? No less than a perfect excuse to spend a couple of days in the capital and indulge in window shopping in some of the trendiest malls in South East Asia. With such a good shopping “opportunity” I invited my best friend Helen to come along and from where our hotel was, on Bintang Walk, we couldn’t ask for a better situation: Pavillion, Starhill, KL Plaza, Lot 10, and of course Sungai Wang and Bukit Bintang Plazzas and even Time Square were all within walking distance. I was even able to check out on a new lens for my camera at Low Yat Plaza which specialises in IT products, cameras and various gadgets.
I love the Pavilion, the most affordable part of course and unashamedly the top designers section too. Who wouldn’t feel grand walking through gigantic doors, passing COACH on the right side and being welcome by MARC JACOBS. I must confess that I always walk out of there happy, with perhaps something out of Tangs, a pair of shoes from Nine West (I even found a pair of elegant Zang Toi sandals at Parkson) and a little something chic from Bimba and Lola on the ground floor (I love this boutique! See my latest bag?); and what to say about one of my favorite boutiques, Ralph Lauren
which conveniently faces The Loaf that serves pastries which I find impossible to resist? What a nice way to ponder over a cuppa and decide on whether or not to go crazy over that chiffon skirt which happens to be in my size?

Right on the opposite side of the Walk, we were happily surprised to find KL Plaza had undergone a full make-over and had literally transformed into fahrenheit-88 so and off course, we had to explore it, which was a good idea as we found out that every boutique in there seemed to make a point to offer something different while we were beginning to think that the only difference from one shop to another was the price tag on the same blouse or tees. Chapter 8 in particular felt special both in decor and goods and the fact that everyone was fussing around a lovely model pausing on a cosy chair (I was allowed to take my own picture) definitely added a touch of glamour to our visit.

Modeling at CHAPTER 8
Again it was great going to KL, although rather overwhelming after a while. Ask most East Malaysians and they’ll tell you that three days is the maximum they can take of the fast and furious pace of life in the capital city; this is why, flying homeward bound back to Kuching is never a sad moment. Life’s good in Borneo (yes Parkson is here too), until that is, the next excuse to visit KL.

Chic & Casual Sarah Jessica Parker

I found this picture of Sarah Jessica Parker in Woman's Weekly Magazine. This is so....how I would love to dress, except perhaps for the shoes, they are just not "me". Where's this dress from?
